Blue Swimmer Crabs have such a unique and beautiful pattern to them. As strong swimmers, they hunt and scavenge ocean prey, but in turn they are also targeted by commercial and recreational fishers.
Blue Swimmer Crabs, formerly known as Portunus armatus or P. pelagicus are found in Australian waters. They are an edible crab, much like the mud crab.
Our Blue Swimmer Crab is recognisable by it’s flat, disc-shaped hind legs. They can grow up to 25 cm wide across the hard shell head, with a claw span of up to 80 cm.
The spider of the ocean has always been a favourite of mine.
